Woodford Green with Essex Ladies men's team began life in Division One with a comfortable win at Eton, finishing the event with a staggering 117 point lead.

Hammer throwers Andy Frost and Mark Dry won the 'A’ and ‘B’ events with huge throws of 70.44m and 69.81m respectively.

Tom Norman took the ‘A’ discus event with 55.83m, while Chris Linque won the ‘B’ contest with 47.65m.

The impressive Anthony Oshodi defeated BUCS champion Youcef Zatat winning the ‘A’ shot put event with a distance of 16.77m.

Debutee Pole Vaulter James Bongart made a fantastic debut coming second in the ‘A’ event with a season’s best of 52.96m.

Long distance runner Ryan McKinlay pulled off an emphatic performance in the 3000m, winning the race in 9.08.31.

Tomaz Plibersek followed up that win by securing valuable points in the ‘B’ event, clocking in at 9.41.19.

Omolulu Abiodun and debutant Tom Holligan won the ‘B’ 100 & 200m races, despite the difficult running conditions.

Dan Awde showed his strong form as he won the 400m ‘A’ event with an impressive time of 46.71.

Tom Phillips earned more valuable points for Woodford winning the 800m ‘B’ race with a time of 1.55.23.

Ed Shepherd finished in lighting fashion to gain second spot in the 3000m ‘B’ event in 8.35.54.

Both of Woodford’s relay teams, the 4x100m consisting of Dan Awde, Omolulu Abiodun, Tom Holligan and Justin Duru and the 4x400m team which included Alex Bell, Dan Awde, Ewan Dyer and Mike Baker, finished second.

The women’s team also made an encouraging start to the new season finishing second at Lee Valley on Sunday with 202 points.

WGEL just lost out to Enfield & Haringey but recorded impressive wins in the high jump, 1500m and 4x100 relay, courtesy of Moe Sasegbon, Ayamba Akim and Tara Bird.

Hollie Redman came second in the ‘B’ shot recording an impressive 10.66m after achieving a personal best in the discus with 46.03m.

Myra Perkins also finished second in the Hammer event throwing 58.20m and will be hoping to qualify for the Commonwealth Games after just missing the Scottish standard length.

WGEL racked up more points through Nusrat Ceesay, who won the ‘B’ long jump in 4.99m and Kitty Eleyae came second in the ‘A’ event recording a distance of 5.79m.

Nusrat then won the ‘B’ 100m Hurdles in 15.39 secs with Zainab Ceesay claiming second place in the ‘A’ triple jump event with 12.41m.

Elaine O’Neill and Keishana LaRose both had excellent debuts coming second in 100 & 200m races respectively. Bernadine Pritchett also contributed to the WGEL points total, finishing second in the ‘B’ 1500m in 5.09.89.

Tara Bird topped an impressive event for the club winning the ‘A’ event comfortably winning six seconds ahead of the field in 4.50.68.

Kitty Eleyae, Keishana Larose, Katie Skelding and Elaine O’Neil combined well to win the 4x100m in 47.93, carving up the competition.
