There was disappointment for Waltham Forest ABC on Friday night as all three of their competitors were beaten in the club’s latest show.

Three hundred spectators packed into the club’s Highams Park headquarters and expectations were high as the highly-regarded Joe Payne took on Wallace Attwell from Weston-super-Mare.

With both boxers trading some good blows and Payne pushing hard, it came as a disappointment he was caught too often on the counter by Attwell, with the latter claiming a split decision from the judges.

Kiran Singh was next for the home club against Zaki Hussain from the Times Club and in a tight, three-round bout, it was Hussain who won, getting a unanimous decision from the officials.

The final Forest fighter into the ring was Ben Pascal, who took on Smallholding’s Joel Preddie.

Unfortunately Pascal failed to recover from a big right hand in the opening session so he had to concede defeat in the second.

Reflecting on events, Forest secretary Ian Cuddy said: “It would have been nice had we had a few winners, but the main thing was the boxing was top notch on the night.

“I thank all the clubs that were involved for their support and also those spectators who helped us raise some much needed funds.”
