Premier Division

Wanstead and Snaresbrook comfortably beat Shenfield by 57 runs at home on Saturday.

The visitors won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first, bowling Wanstead out for 258.

Openers John Chambers (29) and Arfan Akram (61) put on a good showing as Kishen Velani top-scored with 69.

Hussnain Kazmi was the star man with the ball, taking four for 35 for the visitors.

Shenfield fell well short as they were removed by the prolific Joe Ellis-Grewal for 201.

The top order got the bulk of Shenfield’s runs, Suhaib Sarwar (56) and Simon Keen (39) top-scoring for the visitors.

Ellis-Grewal took an impressive six for 39 from ten overs to ease Wanstead to victory.

South Woodford enjoyed a crushing 89-run triumph at home to Ilford.

Put into bat first, the hosts were bowled out for 201.

A slow start from openers Nick Browne (17) and Joe Craddock (12) was recovered by Michael Gymer and Kevin Sargent, both of whom scored 48.

Irfan Sahar did his bit with the ball for the visitors, taking five for 33 and Shahzad Hafeez chipped in with two for 17.

In reply, Ilford struggled to reach 112 before being bowled out.

Sahar top-scored with 33 and Gurdeep Kandola added 24 for the visitors, who saw seven wickets lost for as many runs.

James Malin was in inspired form for South Woodford, taking four for 19 and claiming two maidens from just eight overs.

Loughton were beaten by two wickets at Harold Wood following a spectacular batting collapse.

Put into bat first, the visitors were all out for 111 inside 40 overs.

The first five batsmen offered just 15 runs as Shahbaz Khan tore into the Loughton top-order.

An unbeaten knock of 55 from Hafiz Yawar Afzal went some way towards steadying the ship but it was far from enough.

Khan took a devastating five wickets for a miserly 13 runs, while Umar Farooq took four for 17.

Harold Wood made harder work of reaching the target than they ought to, getting home with two wickets to spare.

Colin Sher hit 27 to top score, with Berham Mahmood adding 17 for the hosts, who only just made it to the required target of 112.

Arslan Shahid was the most effective Loughton bowler, taking three for 22 including two maidens.

Chingford comfortably won by 53 runs at home to Upminster.

The visitors won the toss and opted to bat first, posting a total of 239 for nine.

Daniel Lawrence opened with a decent knock of 56 and Chris Baldock (46) and Alfie Taylor (41) further added to the Chingford total.

John Curtis was the leading Upminster wicket-taker, claiming three for 54.

The hosts reached 186 before being dismissed, with the middle order responsible for a sizeable chunk of that total.

Tail-ender Nicholas O’Dell top-scored with 57 and Billy Gordon hit 38 but it was not enough for Upminster.

Jamie Porter took four for 22, finishing with three maidens from his ten-over spell.

Division One

West Essex won by ten runs at Horndon-on-the-Hill on Saturday.

Put into bat first, the visitors were removed for 172.

Zia Anwar top-scored with a knock of 34 and Wahid Mahmood added a further 31.

Mustansar Meraj took four wickets for 28, with Jack Marson claiming three for 35.

The hosts were bowled out for 162, with a middle-order batting collapse seeing them fall agonisingly short of the required total.

Mike Canovan started brightly, opening the innings with 31 and Liam Hubbard smashed 54, however the middle order contributed little as Horndon slipped to defeat.

Sajid Mahmood took three for 46 as the wickets were shared around.

Woodford Wells made extremely light work of winning by seven wickets at Ardleigh Green.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Ardleigh quickly regretted their decision with openers Jon Bayfield and Paul Hurworth both dismissed for ducks.

Alex Cason top-scored with 36 and Fraser King (13 not out) was the second-highest run scorer as the hosts were dismissed for just 86.

Rory Ellison took an impressive five for 31, recording four maidens in 13.5 overs.

Thirty-one from Rishabh Shah and Jonathan Gaffney’s 24 eased Woodford to a comfortable victory as the visitors reached 87 with seven wickets in hand.

James Duhig, Sajid Younis and King shared the three Ardleigh wickets.

Buckhurst Hill won by four wickets at Colchester and Essex.

The visitors won the toss and put Colchester into bat first, removing the hosts for 127.

With openers Omar Ahmed and Jack Hebron both dismissed for a duck, it fell to third man in, Cameron Rule, to drag the innings along with a knock of 40.

Sam Foster added another 32 as Rohan Bhome (three for 14) and Shane Cassell (three for 19) tore into the hosts’ batting line-up.

In reply, Buckhurst reached 129 with four wickets to spare.

Alexander Maskell hit 67 and Jamie Allen scored 29 to secure the victory for Buckhurst.

Ben Stephens took two for 14 and Rule claimed another two for 23 but it was not enough for Colchester.

Division Two

Fives and Heronians lost by a dismal 125 runs at Belhus.

Batting first, Belhus declared on 189 for nine.

Mat Lewis Jnr top-scored with 54, whilst opener Martin Guilbert hit 23 for the hosts.

Greg Summers took five wickets for Fives but at the expense of 53 runs from his 14 overs.

The visitors were dismissed for a paltry 64, with only three batsmen reaching double figures for Fives.

Rizwan Akram (11), Bradley Knapman (11) and Ben Britton (10) accounted for almost half of the visitors’ runs as Connor Day and Danny Lewis shared nine wickets.

Norris took five for 15, with Day removing another four for 41.

Division Three

Epping claimed a narrow one-wicket victory at home to Benfleet.

Put into bat after Epping won the toss, visitors Benfleet were bowled out for 169.

Aaron Toner fell three short of a half-century and Kieran Record scored 33.

Salah Uddin Quadir took three for 20 and Ali Raza took four for 57.

Despite the best efforts of Paul Frensham, who took eight wickets for Benfleet, the hosts reached 172 for nine to win.

Quadir hit 40 before the loss of four wickets for ducks had Epping wobbling.

However an unbeaten 42 from Ajay Sahni steered Epping to the win.

Frensham’s eight for 71 came from 19.3 overs and included four maidens.

Woodford Green endured a seven-wicket defeat at Old Southendian and Southchurch after a poor showing with the bat.

Put into bat first, the visitors were skittled out for just 73 runs.

Only Jack Cossey (18), Aamir Latif (11) and Hamaad Sayyed (10) reached double figures.

Adam Hunt tore through Woodford’s batting line-up, taking five for just 15 runs.

Thirty-nine from opener Rob Johnstone helped steer the hosts to 76 for three.

Rana Arslan took two for 14 for the visitors but it was too little, too late.

Oakfield Parkonians were convincingly beaten by five wickets at Stanford Le Hope.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bowl first, restricting Parks to 131.

Stanford then made 135 for five to ease to victory.

Semi-Final

Wanstead and Snaresbrook lost to Brentwood by ten runs in their cup semi-final on Sunday.

Hosts Brentwood won the toss and elected to bat, making 146 before being bowled out.

Aaron West top-scored with 34 and Max Osbourne chipped in with 30.

Ellis-Grewal took three for 23 to make him Wanstead’s most effective wicket-taker.

The visitors fell ten runs short as they were bowled out for 136.

Adnan Akram top-scored with 35 and Ellis-Grewal notched 24 as Wanstead fell short.

Five for just 15 made Charlie Griffiths the hosts’ most dangerous bowler.

South Woodford were also beaten in their cup semi-final, going down by 94 runs at Waltham.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first, setting a target of 211 from 43.3 overs.

Khawar Ali Kazmi top-scored with 52 runs, with Mehboob Elahi and Naeem Amin hitting 28 runs apiece.

Harry Shirt took four for 22 for the visitors.

In reply, South Woodford were all out for just 117 runs.

Gymer top-scored with 18 runs and James Malin weighed in with 16 as South Woodford fell well short.

Mehboob Elahi, Iftikhar Mehmood and Al Kazmi each took two wickets for the hosts.
