Leyton Orient goalkeeper Jamie Jones has turned down the offer of a new deal at Brisbane Road in favour of joining Preston North End on a two-year contract.

Jones, 25, joined the O's on a free transfer in 2008 after being released by first club Everton and went on to make over 150 league appearances for the club.

The Kirby-born gloveman will join North End when his contract at Brisbane Road finishes on July 1.

Orient had offered Jones a new contract in an attempt to keep him at the club but 6ft2in keeper elected to chase a new challenge at Deepdale.

Speaking to Preston's website, Jones said: “The potential of Preston is high, it shows in the way the club is run, it is a very big club with a lot of history and that is another thing about it, there is so much history and it doesn’t deserve to be in League One and I am coming here to help get them out of that situation.

“Goalkeepers don’t peak now until they are in their 30s, so hopefully I have got a long and successful career ahead of me and it starts this season with Preston North End.”

Lilywhites boss Simon Grayson added: “Jamie has had two good years at Orient, being at the top end of the division, being very consistent and he is still young with lots of improving still to be done and we feel he will fit in well to the group."

In total, Jones made 179 first team appearances for the O's, the last of which came in last month's play-off final defeat at the hands of Rotherham United.
