Peter Kennaugh is set to be a key figure as Chris Froome bids to retain his Tour de France crown next month.
Like Ongar’s Mark Cavendish, the 24-year-old comes from the Isle of Man and his all-round ability is evidenced by the titles he has won.
A former junior and Under-23 national road race champion, Kennaugh was part of the world record-breaking four-man Great Britain team pursuit squad that won gold at London 2012.
The Team Sky rider is quick but he is also a fine climber, showing his prowess in his debut Tour de France appearance last year when he played a key role in helping Froome triumph on the eighth stage to Ax 3 Domaines.
This was Kennaugh’s fourth ‘Grand Tour’, having ridden the Giro d’Italia the previous two years and Vuelta a Espana in 2010.
