Herts and Essex League Division One 

Five wickets from Abdul Wahab saw Ilford Catholic crush Birchanger by 85 runs on Saturday to move into second place in the table.

In a rain-reduced 25-over match, Catholic batted first; Steve Ward (23) and Ed Tooth (17) departing before Abbas Saleem (56) came to the fore.

Late runs from the tail helped push the score to 156 for nine.

John Rodgers (four for 23) and Vince Mulholland (five for 24) made light work of the Birchanger line-up, with Bass (20) the only batsman to offer resistance.

Anujan Thiru took the final wicket with his first ball to remove Birchanger for just 71.

Division Four

Ilford Catholic Seconds beat Thaxted Seconds by seven wickets to maintain their lead at the summit.

Having won the toss, Catholic opted to bowl first, with Arul Gopalasamy (two for 30) taking the early wicket of A Gent (15).

Annath Kumar (two for 24) also enjoyed some success as Thaxted closed on 153 for six.

Catholic lost early wickets in reply before Wesle Benjamin (34 not out) and Bob Marsh (69 not out) put on a stand of 72 to see Catholic home on a total of 157 for three.

Division Six

Ilford Catholic Thirds beat Rickling Ramblers Seconds by ten wickets to record their first home league win of the season.

Visitors Rickling started aggressively before Dave Revell tore their attack apart with five for ten from four overs.

Unable to recover, Rickling were removed for a meagre 53.

The hosts then eased their way to the win, with Ricki Saha (16 not out) and Revell (20 not out) scoring 56 without loss.
