Woodford Green with Essex Ladies' Mark Dry continued Scotland's medal success at the Commonwealth Games by claiming bronze in the hammer throw.

The 26-year-old threw a distance of 71.64m on Tuesday night to finish third behind Canada's Jim Steacy (74.16) and England's Nicholas Miller (72.99m).

Dry, who also went to the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, had qualified for the final in first place on Monday after reaching 71.62m.

In the final he was in fourth place at the end of the first round of throws with 69.73m but secured a place on the podium with his second throw of 71.64m.

Dry fouled in the third, fifth and sixth round and his only other legitimate throw reached 70.96.

England's Alex Smith pushed the Scot close and ultimately finished just 65cm shy of a medal position.

Last night's bronze for Dry was Scotland's 37th medal of the home Games and their haul has already beaten their previous best at the Commonwealths with five days remaining.
