Waltham Abbey maintained their perfect start in the Ryman Division 1 North with a 3-2 home win over Chatham Town on Tuesday.

Darelle Russell handed the hosts the lead from the penalty spot after a minute before doubling their advantage soon after.

Chatham pulled one back before half-time and restored parity shortly after the restart.

Abbey snatched the winner through James Elmes, who marked his return to Capershotts in style.

The Abbotts opened their campaign on Saturday with a 2-0 win at Aveley – thanks to a brace from James Peargrum.

Meanwhile, Redbridge played out a 1-1 stalemate at Heybridge Swifts on Tuesday.

Daniel Charge popped up with a late equaliser for the Blues after falling behind to Andrew Joslin’s first-half strike.

Three days earlier, the Motormen slipped to a 3-1 defeat to Harlow Town at Oakside Stadium.

A Redbridge own goal and a Shane Stamp strike established a comfortable 2-0 lead for the visitors before Bradley Hooper pulled one back.

George Smith netted Harlow’s third to seal the win.

Elsewhere, a Neil Thompson brace helped Waltham Forest to a 4-2 home win over Takeley in the Essex Senior League on Tuesday.

Corey Stewart and Tyrique Solomon netted for Forest before Takeley pulled one back. Neil Thompson scored twice for Forest before Takeley grabbed a late consolation.

Forest began their campaign with a 3-2 defeat at rivals Ilford on Saturday.

The Stags took the lead through Stewart but were pegged back by Micheal Osei’s strike for the hosts.

Chris Stevens then scored for Ilford and a third from the penalty spot put them in charge before Alan Callaghan pulled back a late consolation strike for Forest.
