Champions Chingford ended their season with a victory as they defeated South Woodford by three wickets on Saturday.

After winning the toss, South Woodford elected to bat. Opener Nick Browne got the side off to a promising start as he scored freely.

Harry Neicho and Michael Gymer were both dismissed for ducks but that brought Bradley Copper to the crease and he and Browne helped build a strong innings that ended on 245.

Browne top-scored for Woodford with 94 while Copper’s contribution was halted on 83. Ashley Leat chipped in with 34.

Ben MacGregor claimed four for 39 with the ball for Chingford while Shaun Eaton (two for 47) and Daniel Lawrence (two for 49) also claimed wickets.

Chingford’s reply was built on solid and small contributions throughout the order, with only Lawrence initially getting past 30.

However, Lawrence struck a fine knock of 98 not out while Eaton ended on 43. It was enough for Chingford to secure victory with three wickets to spare.

The South Woodford bowlers had mixed success. Gymer snared three for 44 while Max Shirt ended with two for 36. There was one wicket apiece for Copper (one for 25) and Richard Browne (one for 23).

It’s the first time Chingford have won the Premier Division title in the club’s history.

Captained by MacGregor, most of the squad has been with the club since they were colts and their excellent team spirit has been a contributing factor in their success.

The batting was led by Lawrence (798 runs), Alfie Taylor (468) and Eaton (429) while the main wicket-takers were Eaton (37), Jamie Porter (33), Ben MacGregor (28) and Lenny Daniels (23).

There were also a total of 34 extras, which allowed Wanstead to clinch victory in 48 overs.

Division One

Buckhurst Hill clinched second place in the table after they defeated Hainault and Clayhall by seven wickets.

Buckhurst lost the toss and were put into the field by their opponents. They made a positive start with the ball as Mohib Shah and Shame Cassel claimed early wickets.

Hainault slowly added runs and looked in position to build a good score at 102 for four. However, the next six wickets were lost with just 13 runs added.

Shah (six for 48) and Rohan Bhome (three for zero) ripped through the middle and lower order to leave their opponents all out on 115 in the 39th over.

In reply, Buckhurst put on 46 for the first wicket before Ricky Reynolds (9) was dismissed. Fellow opener Hermes Michael Solomonides was unfazed and went on to reach 44.

He was supported by Alexander Maskell (26), Raymond Parkinson (15 not out) and Ian Russell (10 not out) as Hill eased to victory in just 23 overs.

It was a disappointing end to the campaign for Woodford Wells as they were beaten by four wickets against Southend-on-Sea.

Woodford won the toss and decided to bat. Joe Johnson and Peter McDermott opened and the duo made a solid start, with 48 put on for the first wicket.

McDermott reached 19 when he was bowled by Joe Robbins but Johnson continued to 63 before he was trapped leg before wicket by Michael Grindley.

William Rogers, in at number four, was in good touch and he struck 61 off 74 balls. Rahul Patel and Donovan Miller scored 22 and 21 respectively as Wells declared on 219 for nine.

Southend’s batting order produced a solid response. Every batsman made it to double figures, which allowed the side to chase down the required runs in 38 overs and with four wickets in hand.

Dale Hackney top-scored with 58 while Oliver Wagstaff (37) and Robbins (33 not out) made important runs.

It was a tricky afternoon for the Woodford bowlers. Tom Clark ended with two for 15 while Rory Ellison snared two for 45.

There were also single wickets taken by Miller and Jonathan Gaffney.

Division Two

Fives and Heronians ended their campaign with a six-run win against Horndon on the Hill.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat, Fives went on to put up a total of 187 before being dismissed.

The Hill reply was halted on 181, which meant Fives ended their league campaign in third place and narrowly missed out a place in the promotion spots.

West Essex have been relegated after they were beaten by 86 runs against Leigh on Sea.

Prior to the game, West Essex needed a miracle to survive and they had to play the crunch fixture with a man disadvantage.

They lost the toss and were put into the field. Leigh went on to post a commanding total of 291 before they were dismissed in the 47th over.

Zia Anwar, Wahid Mahmood and Farhad Saleem all claimed two wickets for West Essex.

They made a solid start in reply, with the opening partnership of Anwar and Julian Joy reaching 50. However, when the latter was dismissed the wickets began to fall.

Anwar went on to score 47 and that was the highest total achieved by a West Essex batsman. Zohair Jan did reach 39 but the runs were not scored quick enough and West Essex ran out of time and were relegated.

Division Three

Woodford Green’s league campaign ended in a 43-run defeat against Oakfield Parkonians.

Woodford won the toss and elected to bowl. However, they were made to regret that decision as Oakfield went on to post an imposing total of 237, Jibran Azam top-scoring with an impressive knock of 85 from just 70 balls.

The wickets were shared amongst the Green bowlers. Sahir Akbar took three for 50 while there were two wickets apiece for Mashood Qazi, Rana Arslan and Asad Ijaz.

The Green reply got off to a sluggish start and it wasn’t until the introduction of middle-order batsmen Sean Martin and Matthew Field that runs were scored.

Martin ended on 54 while Field struck 41. Their dismissals ended any hope Green had of winning the match and they were skittled for just 194.

Abdul Rehman Razzaq starred with the ball for Oakfield. He took five for 44 while Azam claimed three for 54. Vikram Handa took one for 20 from his five overs.
