Russell Slade's job remains under serious threat despite Leyton Orient fighting back to earn a 1-1 draw at Notts County tonight.

The O's boss was told he had one match to save his position after their home defeat to Colchester United on Saturday. Whether a point is enough to keep him in charge for longer remains to be seen but there remains a sense of inevitability about his departure.

Orient fell behind against the run of play when they conceded a penalty and Zeli Ismail fired home. But the visitors cancelled this out early on in the second half when Chris Dagnall calmly tucked home a penalty.

Slade made a number of changes to the team beaten on Saturday. Romain Vincelot returned from suspension while Elliot Omozusi and Jobi McAnuff came in for Marvin Bartley, Mathieu Baudry and Darius Henderson.

The O's made a lively start and went close through Scott Cuthbert but his header hit the bar. David Mooney also had an early effort but his strike flashed just past the far post.

But the hosts were awarded a penalty midway through the half when Liam Noble was brought down by Nathan Clarke. Ismail stepped up and fired home the penalty for Notts County.

Orient were hoping for a quick response but Mooney could only head wide after a flick-on from Clarke.

The visitors had a late opportunity in the half but Vincelot's long-range strike drifted disappointingly past the post.

Slade's side went close at the start of the second period but loanee Michael Petrasso fired his effort wide.

But the O's were handed the chance to level when Mooney was tripped by Curtis Thompson. Dagnall stepped up and tucked away the penalty to the delight of the travelling fans.

Orient had their tails up and the supporters were making themselves heard as they backed Slade and his team on.

The visitors had a chance through Omozusi but the defender could only fire straight at keeper Roy Carroll.

Omozusi turned provider when he set up Bradley Pritchard but the midfielder's powerful strike flew narrowly past the post.

Slade made a double change, in a bid to find a winner, as Henderson and Dean Cox replaced Mooney and Petrasso.

The visitors also brought on Jay Simpson, for Dagnall, in the final ten minutes as they pushed for the second goal they arguably deserved.

Noble gave Orient a late scare as his long-range strike stung the fingers of Gary Woods.

Henderson almost grabbed a late winner but the former Nottingham Forest striker drilled his low strike past the post.

There were four minutes of injury time but the O's could not find a winner and time will tell whether the watching owner Francesco Becchetti considers this result enough to keep Slade in his job.
