Crostyx Men were beaten 2-1 at Chelmsford Seconds on Saturday after a late own-goal denied them a draw.

In far-from-ideal weather conditions, the visitors started in encouraging fashion and both teams traded early blows as chances went astray in the opening ten minutes.

However, Chelmsford took the lead shortly before the break with an effort from the edge of the ‘D’ following a short corner.

Crostyx looked the more menacing side after the re-start and found an equaliser when a defence-splitting ball from James Dawes picked out Jake Burke, who dragged the ball past the Colchester goalkeeper before prodding home as the angle diminished.

From there, the away side pushed for the winner but were unable to make the most of a succession of short corners.

Tim Watson saw an effort parried away by the hosts’ goalkeeper, before Chelmsford struck a late blow to seal the win.

A short corner was allowed to bounce around the ‘D’ before deflecting off of a Crostyx player’s stick and beyond Harry Bamber in the visitors’ goal.

Crostyx Men’s Seconds were beaten 2-0 by Chelmsford, despite running their visitors close in a spirited showing.

Despite being weakened by availability issues, Crostyx began the game strongly, but it was the visitors who looked the most likely to make the breakthrough.

That pressure told when the away side did take the lead; profiting from a couple of missed tackles to slot home the opener.

Re-invigorated after the break, Crostyx emerged much-improved for the second period and good work from Si Blockley, Simon Gilbert and Suk Jabbal almost yielded an equaliser.

A series of short corners also went astray, and as Crostyx pushed for the leveller, they were caught out at the back, allowing the visitors to clinch a game-winning second late on.

Crostyx Men’s Thirds made it three wins as many games, maintaining their 100 per cent record this season, by beating Old Loughtonians Academy Seconds 4-2.

It was a tentative start from Crostyx, who eventually found their rhythm when Kevin Foot slotted past the visitors’ keeper.

The lead was then doubled when Dave Fulton slipped the ball beyond the Loughts goalkeeper following a pass from the right.

Not to be denied, Loughts continued to search for a way back into the match and found one when Styx gave up possession cheaply, and a short corner was converted to halve the deficit.

A bright start to the second half was rewarded when Foot nabbed his second after popping up unmarked behind the goalkeeper.

The hosts’ superiority was evident when a fourth arrived soon after; Fulton dribbling beyond two defenders to finish following a short corner.

In the final ten minutes, Loughts got another one back when another short corner was awarded for failing to withdraw five metres, and again the hosts were punished.

Old Loughtonians Men's disappointing run continued with a 4-1 loss at newcomers Chichester Priory Park on Saturday. An even first half saw Chichester go into half time 1-0 up. The game was open to either side, but it was Chichester who took their chances and scored a second in free play, with Loughts pulling a goal back quickly through a Bertie Mortimer short corner. The hosts then added two further goals to confirm their superiority on the day and close out a comfortable win.
