Kevin Nugent has confirmed he is Leyton Orient's interim manager but insists he does not fear the possibility of reverting back to assistant coach if the club wants to replace him.

Nugent has yet to win a league match since taking charge of the side but admitted he was responsible for the team after watching them draw 0-0 at home to MK Dons.

There has been plenty of speculation over the vacant position with Italian Serse Cosmi, who was recently odds on favourite for the job, attending this afternoon's game.

But Nugent said: "Interim manager is the job title. There were a few bits and pieces that were banded around but that's the situation.

"I signed that contract before the Sheffield United game but didn't really speak about it afterwards because I didn't want to take away from the spirit of the lads in the game.

"That's the title and I'm happy and just want to be in charge here at the moment. It's all about winning games. If I win games then I stay. If not then someone else may come in. If that's the case then it's whatever's best for Leyton Orient is what counts."

Nugent added: "You know in football things change all the time. It's changed a fair bit as well here. It basically means I'm in charge of the football team at the moment and that's how it is."

He also insisted there was no issue in terms of respect from the players due to his interim title rather than being a permanent replacement for Russell Slade.

Nugent said: "I think you've seen the way they've performed out there so there's not a problem with that. I'm not sure how much contracts mean anyway now because things do change in football all the time.

"I spoke to them on Tuesday before I mentioned it to any of the press and basically I said to them I will be taking charge of the team and I will be running it how I want to run it.

"If I was to step back to a number two again then so be it. I certainly don't fear that situation."

Nugent admitted that player recruitment was not strictly down to him and this appeared to be confirmed after the club signed Italian striker Gianvito Plasmati this evening.

He said: "To be honest recruitment's a funny thing nowadays because there is a lot of input from different people. Obviously I've got Jack Price in which is the only player that's come in at the moment so that was nice for us. But we'll have a look at that but recruitment comes under a whole different section."
