Eton Manor remain three points clear of Colchester following a 54-5 win over Brentwood on Saturday – the club’s ninth consecutive victory.

The win, which ensured the club maintained their 100 per cent start to the London League One North season, overshadowed a second-half display in which Manor were far from their best.

After a handful of early opportunities to score were passed up, Manor took the lead through Peter Bicknell, who broke past a couple of challenges to cross after ten minutes.

Having made the breakthrough, Manor took control and soon after Kevin Reed ran in from 30 metres, with brother Reece converting to make it 12-0.

From kick-off, Brentwood got one back, but Manor responded well and a penalty try re-established their lead.

Bicknell then scored either side of Stephen Ross’ effort to put Manor into a convincing 40-5 lead at the break.

Up against a Brentwood side who were determined to not concede too many points following the restart, Manor played their worst 30 minutes of rugby this season, once more passing up opportunities to score before Michael Eghan twice used his pace to great effect to help extend the final score to 54-5.

David Duffus ran in two tries as Chingford beat Ipswich 28-19 to hold onto third place in League One North.

Star man Jon Hollis and Luke Campbell also scored, whilst Dan Boughtwood kicked two penalties and a conversion.

Woodford remain bottom of the pile following a 41-16 defeat at home to Romford and Gidea Park.

In London League Three North East, Wanstead were beaten 29-24 at Stowmarket.

Epping Upper Clapton are second in Essex League One, and just a point behind leaders May & Baker, following a 49-20 win over East London.

Kurtis Knightly (2), Tim Matthews, Laurie Dobbin, Matt Thompson, David Allen and Cameron Furlong got the tries, with Ross Stalley converting all seven.
