Wapping came from behind to beat a strong Cambridge City Seconds side 2-1 in the East Premier ‘A’ Division on Saturday.

It was Wapping who began the brighter of the two teams, but were unable to turn their possession into chances.

That lack of penetration came back to haunt Wapping, who fell behind just before the break when Cambridge struck from close range following a short corner.

Matthew Hyden equalised for Wapping, following in after James Fanger’s shot on the turn rebounded into his path and the east Londoners took the lead when Mark Bennett fired home via the aid of a deflection from a short corner.

For the womens’ team, Sarah Burke hit a hat-trick as Wapping beat bottom-of-the-league Ipswich Ladies Seconds 3-0.

Goalless at the break, Wapping took the lead in the second period when Burke flicked the opener into the bottom corner.

A second followed when she tucked home from a short corner, before Burke was again on hand from a short corner, completing her treble.
