Leyton Orient manager Mauro Milanese was shocked by his side's defending after a dramatic 98th minute goal fired Gillingham to a 3-2 win.

The O's appeared to have rescued a point against ten man Gillingham after Chris Dagnall's injury time header. But Cody McDonald netted with the last kick of the game to send Orient into the League One relegation zone.

The visitors, who were watched by owner Francesco Becchetti, conceded all three goals from set pieces as they contrived to throw away this match against their fellow strugglers.

Milanese, who is still waiting for his first league victory, said: "We need to defend better because for me it's shocking from the position with their free-kicks they could score directly. Something was not working.

"I think we never gave up and we tried the best. We were drawing just after 90 minutes but three free-kicks have cost us.

Milanese added: "Maybe the third one the referee was a bit generous where he created a corner and the last goal but either way we need to defend free-kicks properly because two of them and one corner have cost us three points. We need to defend better.

"We were alive and the lads reacted and wanted to win until the end. But this situation was caused by three free-kicks with ten men behind the ball. It's something that I cannot believe."

Their defeat leaves them 21st in the table and sets up another crucial clash at home to second bottom Crewe next weekend.
