Men’s Conference East bottom side Old Loughtonians earned a 3-1 win over Cambridge City in front of a large crowd marking the club’s President’s Day on Saturday.

The sides went into the half-time break 0-0 and it was Old Loughtonians who came out sharper, with Conor Caplan managing to get on to the end of a rebound to put the hosts 1-0 up.

A fine breakaway saw Jonny Sloman slot in a second goal in the 38th minute. Cambridge piled on the pressure but some important saves by Alex Hardwick and defenders Bertie Mortimer, James Southgate, Tom Stumbke and Ian Swallow kept the visitors out.

Old Loughtonians won a short corner which was calmly dispatched by James Jewell to make it 3-0 with 25 minutes to play.

Cambridge managed to pull a goal back after Rob Bloss broke his stick in half but the resilient Loughts defence kept the final score to 3-1.

The team host Chichester Priory on Sunday at 2pm.

Old Loughtonians ladies were disappointed to be on the wrong end of a 4-2 defeat at home to Bromley & Beckenham.
