New Leyton Orient manager Fabio Liverani insists he will learn English as quickly as possible after agreeing a two and a half year contract with the club.

The former Italian international midfielder was appointed O's boss on Monday and unveiled this afternoon at Brisbane Road. Sporting director Mauro Milanese translated for Liverani but the new manager is determined to speak English as soon as possible.

Liverani said: "Obviously I would like to do this as quickly as possible because it's normal for me to do this. I will get some courses in English.

"I will do this to try and help the concentration and focus of the team. I need a bit of a time but I'm confident I will be able to learn it as soon as possible."

Liverani takes over a club struggling at the wrong end of the League One table and the Italian's first target is to help move the side out of a relegation battle.

He said: "Realistically this season to be successful would be to rise above some teams in front of us and do the maximum to get as far away from the relegation zone as possible.

"Nothing is impossible to achieve but we will see in March what situation we are in. I think the next seven games will tell us which part of the table we are in and the direction of the season afterwards."
