Old Loughtonians finished as runners up at the East Indoor Championship as they prepare for the National Indoor League season.

In their opening game against West Herts, Loughts took an early lead but were pegged back by a late penalty. The game finished tied at 2-2.

The second match saw Harleston Magpies run out winners in an 11-goal thriller, with Loughts again squandering an early advantage.

It was Loughts’ turn to prevail late on in their third fixture, beating St Albans 4-3 by scoring the winner with two minutes remaining.

Loughts then played some great passing hockey to beat City of Peterborough 12-3 with sufficient goal difference to finish as runners up.

Wapping moved top of the East Men’s Premier Division by beating City of Peterborough 2-1 in their final fixture before the Christmas break.

The game began at a frenetic pace, with Wapping forward Ben Gallagher slamming wide early on. However, Wapping soon took the lead when Graint Aido-Nash deflected home Mark Bennett’s strike.

After the break the east Londoners doubled their advantage when Matt Hyden converted Felix Styles’ left-wing cross.

With five minutes to go Peterborough got one back to halve the deficit.

Wapping ladies head into the break with a win too – beating Tunbridge Wells 2-1.

After repelling several Wapping attacks, Tunbridge Wells took the lead when a shot was deflected home.

The setback did not disrupt Wapping and the home side levelled through Lucy Todd, striking with her back to goal.

Just a few minutes later the win was sealed as Jo Ward fired home from an acute angle.

Tunbridge Wells were reduced to ten players for a trip late on in the second period, effectively ending any lingering threat.

Crostyx men’s Seconds remain just above the relegation zone ahead of the Christmas break following a 3-3 draw with Upminster Thirds.

Upminster struck first but Tim Jolly grabbed his fourth of the season to equalise, only for an own goal to see Styx fall 2-1 behind.

Calum Selfe then levelled at the near post before Tom Styles to score an excellent individual goal before half-time.

Leading 3-2, Styx were denied an invaluable win when Upminster equalised late on from a goalmouth scramble to share the points.
