Redbridge joint-boss Ricky Eaton labelled Saturday’s 4-1 win over Chatham Town as one of the Motormen’s best results of the season.

The win sees Redbridge move up two places in the Isthmian Division One North, building a nine-point cushion between themselves and the relegation zone.

Reflecting on the victory, Eaton said: “The result was undoubtedly one of our best of the season and the performance was very pleasing as well, especially in terms of the scoreline.

“When you are struggling down near the bottom of the table the points count for so much and so to take them off of a direct relegation rival was really important for us.

“It was only a few weeks ago that we were in the relegation zone ourselves and had been for a few weeks. Now it is important to get a few more wins under our belts and keep on pushing as hard as we can to put as much distance between ourselves and the relegation zone as possible.”

Charlie Parish and Vinny Murphy put Redbridge into a 2-0 lead before Owen Kabodi pulled one back before half time. But Carlos Espirito Santo and Patrick Damali sealed the points for Redbridge in the second half.

Eaton was pleased with his side’s reaction to conceding shortly before the break. He explained: “For the last season-and-a-half we have let games slip away from us when we are winning.

“At 2-0 we were very comfortable but when they got one back before the break, Dave (Ross) and I said at half time we had to go back out there and get at them.”

Eaton and joint-manager Ross were charged with keeping the Motormen up this season but the former London Bari boss believes they can exceed those expectations.

He said: “The overall outlook of the club has changed from the end of last season. Everything has gone backwards since we lost the chairman; the budget, ambitions, everything.

“We both felt we could still complete in this league and looking at what we have achieved so far it has been really rewarding.

“We set ourselves a target of not going down and we know it would be a struggle but the committee and board just said, ‘keep us up this season’. We don’t see any reason why we can’t push on into mid-table with a few more wins.”

Redbridge’s match with Hornchurch on Tuesday was postponed at short notice.

The Motormen host Romford on Saturday before a visit from Barkingside on Tuesday.

Four goals in the final 16 minutes set up a tense finish as Waltham Abbey just edged Burnham Ramblers 4-3 on Tuesday.

Bruno then completed his hat-trick from the spot in the 90th minute before further last-gasp strikes from Burnham pair Isaac Aubynn and Anderson ensured a nervy finish.

A late goal denied Waltham Abbey victory at Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday, with the Abbotts settling for a 1-1 draw.

The lead was Abbey’s 15 minutes from time when James Peagram netted from 18 yards.

However the R’s stole a point at the death when former Colchester United striker Russell Malton fired past keeper Jayden Purdue.
