Old Loughtonians ladies produced one of their best performances of the season, beating Harleston Magpies Seconds 4-0 in the East Women’s League Premier Division on Saturday.

After a slow start Loughts gradually fought their way back into the game and, from a penalty corner, Miranda Weeks struck the opener.

Sorcha Crawley then netted the second and it was another impressive start to the second half which saw Weeks score her second.

It was left to Heidi Baber to finish the rout in another good team move.

The men did not fare so well and suffered a 7-2 home defeat to runaway leaders Holcombe.

Crostyx were unable to build on last week’s win at Bourne Deeping, surrendering a lead to lose 3-1 against St Ives in the NOW: Pensions Men’s Hockey League.

Styx took an early lead from Jake Burke, who calmly slotted the ball home inside ten minutes.

St Ives were quick to equalise and after a hopeful pass was smashed into the ‘D’, a lucky deflection carried the ball into the Crostyx net.

A few minutes before half time, St Ives went ahead following a well-worked goal.

After the break, Crostyx took charge of proceedings but failed to convert any of their plethora of chances, including a penalty flick.

St Ives finally put the game to bed when they struck a fortunate last-minute goal, capitalising on confusion in the Styx ‘D’.

Next week the Purple Train make the trip to Ipswich East-Suffolk as they seek a return to form.

Wapping came up short against Bedford on Saturday, losing 3-1 in the East Men’s Premier Division ‘A’. David Guy scored the east Londoners’ consolation.

The ladies were also beaten, losing 2-0 against leaders Cambridge City in the East Women’s League Premier Division.
