Harry Kane again provided the heroics for Tottenham Hotspur as he equalised with the final kick of the game to prevent West Ham United collecting a third successive win at White Hart Lane.

The England Under-21 international, brimming with confidence having scored 11 in his previous 10 Barclays Premier League games, saw a last-gasp penalty saved but tucked away the rebound to secure what could prove to be a vital 2-2 draw for Mauricio Pochettino's side.

The visitors had been the better side for much of the game and held a two-goal lead with 10 minutes remaining courtesy of Senegalese pair Cheikhou Kouyate and Diafra Sakho.

But Danny Rose halved the deficit to set up a grandstand finish and the stage was set for Kane when he was brought down in the box by Alex Song at the end of stoppage time.

Sam Allardyce had seen West Ham humbled 4-0 at West Brom in the FA Cup last weekend but a victory over their local rivals would have cushioned that blow.

With his future at Upton Park still uncertain, the 60-year-old had won on his previous two visits to White Hart Lane but they remain with just a solitary league win since Christmas having been pinned back here.

Spurs avoided a big blow in the chase for the Champions League positions and remain unbeaten at home in the league since November, with the lift of Kane's late leveller coming at the start of a defining week for Pochettino with Thursday's Europa League tie against Fiorentina and a clash with Chelsea in the Capital One Cup final.

Tottenham started well enough as Nabil Bentaleb forced Adrian into a save at full stretch as he thrashed in an effort from 30 yards, before Kane went even closer as he got the better of James Tomkins before turning the ball towards goal - only to see his shot come back off the post.

West Ham had been second best in the opening stages but slowly grew into the contest and had their first attack of note after 15 minutes as Sakho played in Stewart Downing, whose shot was deflected behind by Rose.

And the Hammers did not have to wait much longer to break the deadlock as Mousa Dembele's under-hit pass was collected by Enner Valencia.

The ball was worked to Mark Noble who then threaded a ball into the run of Aaron Cresswell, with the full-back's cross headed home by the unmarked Kouyate.

Tottenham were thrown by the goal and several passes were misplaced but Rose came close to equalising as he headed Kane's dinked cross over the onrushing Adrian but onto the roof of the net.

The visitors were proving sharp in attack and Kyle Walker was forced into a brave block as Noble fizzed in a shot after a well-worked corner routine.

Eriksen was introduced at the break as Pochettino hauled off the ineffectual Dembele but it was Sakho who wasted the best chance at the start of the second half as he could not beat Lloris one-on-one having been slipped in by Noble.

The Hammers' top goalscorer made amends shortly afterwards, however.

Noble collected a deep cross and played the ball to the back post where Sakho arrived to coolly slot home his 11th goal of the season.

Kane thought he had tucked home a 12th goal in his last 11 league appearances to give Spurs a foothold with 15 minutes remaining but he was flagged offside before he thrashed past Adrian.

The goal did come five minutes later as Rose fired into the ground to beat Adrian, who had flapped at a ball into the box and was out of position.

If the Spaniard was at fault for the goal, he repaid his team-mates when he pushed away a strike from compatriot Roberto Soldado as the home side chased an equaliser.

With almost all of the five minutes of added time played, Song clipped the back of Kane's heels as he looked to break clear and referee Jon Moss pointed for a penalty.

With the run of form Kane is in, many would have expected him to score but Adrian kept out his well-struck penalty, only to see the forward sweep home the rebound with the last kick of the game.
