Wapping returned to the summit of the East Men’s League Premier Division ‘A’ with a 3-2 win at Dereham on Saturday.
The east Londoners seized control of the game in the first quarter-of-an-hour, with James Fanger opening the scoring after two minutes by tucking home the rebound from Phil Messent’s blast.
Felix Styles then doubled Wapping’s advantage from a short corner before Grant Aidoo-Nash added a third following a slick team move.
Leading 3-0 prior to half time, the visitors should not have allowed their hosts back into the contest but did just that when Dereham pulled one back before the break.
Five minutes into the second period Dereham netted a second goal. But it was Wapping who ended the contest on top, although they were unable to add to their lead before the end of the game.
With four games left, Wapping boast a one-point lead over second-placed Cambridge City and St Albans in third, whilst fourth-placed Harleston Magpies are only two points behind.
Crostyx ladies Seconds claimed a creditable 1-1 draw from their clash with league-leaders East London.
Leading 1-0 prior to the interval following an encouraging first-half display, Styx were denied three points by a second-half equaliser.
And although chances came and went for both sides, the game petered out into a draw.
Neither the men’s or women’s Firsts were in action.
Styx Under-14 girls were big winners, crushing Southgate 7-2.
Jessie Brown, Lara Chick, Demi Evarschi and Lucy Leel were among the Crostyx scorers.
