Essex Sunday Corinthian League

Premier Division

Second-placed Warren United continue to wilfully give chase to leaders Greengate after battering West Thurrock 4-1.

The victory leaves Warren 12 points behind the table toppers with two games in hand but time is running out to overhaul the long-term pace setters.

Lamarr Douglas pulled one back for West Thurrock, who are bottom of the table with only eight points from 15 games.

In the only other top-flight fixture to be played, struggling Morfdown Elect pulled off a shock by claiming a 2-0 victory at Chingford Celtic to move out the bottom two.

The goals came from Ricky Abel Barwick and Lee Beardsell.

The win means Morfdown are a point clear of the relegation zone with five to play.

Division One

Leaders Aldborough Hatch played a double header against Warren United Reserves winning one game and drawing the other.

Failure to take maximum points means Hatch are now just four points clear of second-placed Ainslie Wood, who have played three games less as the season nears its conclusion.

Terlochan Singh was the Hatch marksman, scoring twice in a 2-2 draw, whilst Patrick Ladyman and Grant Ainsworth replied for the home side, who are currently third in the standings.

And Hatch were victorious in their other game, edging out United 3-2 in a five-goal thriller.

Goals from Stefan Attfield, Singh and Alex Phillips cancelled out Thomas Metcalfe’s double for United.

Division Two

Park Tavern closed the gap on the top two by beating Romford Galaxy 2-0 away from home.

Paul Gissing and Kristopher Brown both hit the back of the net for Tavern, who are now seven points off second place having played three games more than current incumbents Flanders.

Defeat leaves Romford six points off the top two spots in the division, having played two more games than Flanders and one less than leaders Leyton Green.

Spring Cup

Seventh and sixth respectively in Division Two, E4 Rangers crushed Wanstead United 5-1 in the Spring Cup.

The other tie saw an entertaining 3-3 draw played out between Heathside and Leyton Green.

Mark A J Ellis, Sam Owen and Kurt Smith all found the back of the net for Heathside.

West Essex Sunday Charity Cup

Extra-time and penalties were required to separate Romford Elite and Valiant, with the former 4-1 winners from the spot to secure their progression.

A 2-2 draw after extra-time had meant spot kicks were required to find a winner.
