Three Wapping Hockey Club players have raised almost £8,000 for charity after running the London Marathon on Sunday.

Commemorating the 20th anniversary of his father's death from cancer, Dan Carter raised over £3,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.

Alongside him were Anne Coleman and Maria Fowler, who both raised over £2,000 each for Cancer Research UK and Help for Heroes.

More than 38,000 people entered the famous race on Sunday and the trio were cheered on from the sidelines by 30 members of their hockey team.

Carter says he hit the wall around 20 miles in but thanked those in attendance for their "cheers, witty banners and jelly babies".

He said: "You are what make London the best marathon in the world."

Wapping Hockey Club chairman Stuart Burnside said: "The London marathon sets a fine example for how improving health through physical activity can be allied to wider charitable aims.

"That's in Wapping's DNA and I'm delighted to see our three runners smashing personal goals whilst achieving charitable targets."
