Leyton Orient suffered relegation from League One on Sunday after their 2-2 draw at Swindon Town.
The O's had to win to have any chance of survival but Colchester's victory over Preston meant the result turned out to be irrelevant.
Fabio Liverani's side took the lead through Dean Cox and Chris Dagnall's goal appeared to put them on course for the three points.
But a stunning strike from Anton Rodgers pulled one back for ten man Swindon before a late penalty by Andy Williams levelled the contest.
Orient finished second bottom in the division and will be playing League Two football next season after taking just four points from their final seven games.
