Redbridge are no nearer to finding out whether they will be reprieved from relegation but joint-boss Ricky Eaton is not holding his breath over the possibility of staying up.

The Motormen finished third-bottom of Isthmian Division One North but despite finishing in the relegation places they could still avoid the drop into the Essex Senior League.

On Monday evening Willand Rovers of the Western League Premier Division were beaten 5-0 by Slimbridge, meaning the visitors finished third and will apply for promotion to step four of the non-league pyramid.

The league was won by Merksham but their new ground was not ready and their current stadium not fit for level four, meaning they are unable to take promotion.

As Redbridge are one of the sides who will drop out of step four, they could still avoid the drop to step five, which would see them follow local rivals Waltham Forest into the Essex Senior League Premier Division.

Joint-boss Eaton said: “I do look into the different permutations but you can’t do anything other than cross your fingers and hope for the best.

“Last year it was not right until the end of May that the decision was made as to who would be coming up and going down.”

He added: “We are still in the dark but we have been told, unofficially, it is very likely we are going to be reprieved.

“That is not official but we are in pole position to be reprieved.”

A level above the Motormen, the situation is even less clear and the knock-on effect is being felt further down the chain.

The Isthmian Premier Division play-offs still not yet underway due to an ineligible player case against Enfield Town, who have been deducted three points but are appealing the Football Association’s guilty verdict.
