Captain Terry Chisholm has won Woodford Golf Club’s May medal, winning Division One with a nett score of 71.

In second place on countback with a fine score of 73 was Tom Steed. Adam Taylor finished third.

The Division Two medal was a keenly-contested affair with three players recording the same nett score of 68.

On countback the winner was David Jones, second place went to Neil Robinson and Roger Newman claimed third.

Due to the good score Jones had his handicap cut by one to 21, whilst Robinson’s was reduced by two to 24 and Newman’s was also cut by one to 19.

Sunday saw Woodford beat Epping 10-5 in the first round of the Thornton Challenge Cup – a blue ribbon event for clubs in the Essex Golf Union calendar.

The competition follows a knockout format with teams of ten players competing in five morning foursomes and ten afternoon singles.

Epping had a 3-2 lead after the morning foursomes but after lunch the singles matches saw Woodford secure an 8-2 win and claim the match by the five-point margin.

The next round of the competition will see Woodford host either Canons Brook Golf Club from Harlow or Thorpe Hall Golf Club from Thorpe Bay.
