West Ham United are reportedly on the verge of making Sampdoria midfielder Pedro Obiang their first summer signing.

The managerless club were linked with the Spanish midfielder last summer, yet no transfer ever materialised.

His club, Serie A Sampdoria, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, have agreed a £4.3 million deal for the box-to-box 23-year-old.

After it emerged that Alex Song is unlikely to make a move to Upton Park permanent from Champions League winners Barcelona, the east Londoners have made the midfielder their priority.

Obiang made 36 appearances for Sampdoria as they finished seventh in Serie A last season, scoring three goals in the process.
