East London Runners were able to boast the first and second male finishers at the Colworth Marathon Challenge at the weekend.

Thomas Grimes and Patrick Brown came out on top in three events to seal first and second place respectively.

The three events – a five-mile run, an 8.1-mile trail race and a half-marathon – take place across consecutive days and equal the 26.2 miles of a full marathon.

Grimes won Friday’s five-mile run in a time of 27.43 with Brown (28.08) hot on his tail. On Saturday the pair placed first and second again in the 8.1-mile trail race in 42.02 and 47.14 respectively.

And they again sealed first and second place in Sunday’s half marathon with times of 1.17.28 and 1.18.32. Grimes’ cumulative time of 2.32.13 was enough to pip Brown to glory after he finished in 2.33.54.

Seventh overall was another East London Runner, Danny Lee, in 2.54.41.

Alex Day won the Wanstead flats parkrun on Saturday in a time of 17.45 and James Wilson (18.26) was just behind in second place.

Ciaran Canavan’s time of 19.11 was enough for sixth place, whilst Scott McMillan (19.17) marked his 200th parkrun with a seventh-place finished. Jonathan Shaw (20.48) was close behind in eighth position.

In Hackney, Thomas Glasock was fifth with a time of 17.23 and there was a seventh-place finish for Spencer Evans (20.18) at the Valentine parkrun.

William Pearce took eighth in Cheltenham by posting a time of 19.03.
