Chingford fighter Tom Baker says he is looking to conquer the light-heavyweight division ahead of his debut in a new class after recently stepping up from super-middleweight.

The 23-year-old (11-0) will be aiming to extend a record which has seen him remain unbeaten since turning professional in June 2012.

He captured the Southern Area title with a points win over Kevin Greenwood in March and now turns his attention to the light-heavyweight division – a jump of seven pounds in the maximum weight to 175lbs.

Now Baker puts all that on the line as he makes the step up to the light-heavyweight division by headlining at York Hall on July 17.

He said: “I just outgrew the super-middleweights and it was getting harder to make the weight so I sat down with my trainer Mark Tibbs and promoter Frank Warren and we agreed the move up to light-heavyweight and I feel the benefits already.

“I am performing so much better in sparring, I can feel the strength a lot more, I am punching harder and faster and everything feels perfect so I just can’t wait to put it into play on July 17 at York Hall.”

And even though he has only recently made the step up in division, the ambitious 6ft 1in puncher is wasting no time in plotting his path to the international glory.

He explained: “I have got two fights at light-heavyweight then I will be looking at my first title, possibly an English title and then I see myself going for the British title next year. “There are a lot of good lads at this weight and I can’t wait to start proving myself against them.

“I am still only 23 and I see myself being based at light-heavyweight for a while yet, I definitely want to achieve my dream and win a British title and after that who knows? I want to be the best in Britain and then I’m after Europe and the world.”

On the undercard are up-and-coming domestic talents including Romeo Romaeo, Joe Pigford and Anthony Yarde.
