Leyton Orient have appointed Andy Hessenthaler as their new assistant manager.

The former Gillingham boss has signed a two-year deal with the O's to work alongside new head coach Ian Hendon.

The pair have worked together before with Hendon assisting Hessenthaler at Priestfield in 2010.

Hendon told the club website: “I am delighted to have someone with Andy’s experience and knowledge by my side.

“I have worked with him and he is a very good coach. I also played alongside Andy in the same team and know what attributes he will bring to the club.

“Andy will work alongside Kevin Nugent, who remains very much part of my coaching team.”

Hendon and Hessenthaler will start pre-season training this week as they bid to help Orient return to League One following last season's relegation.
