Chigwell-based strongman Sunny Singh is looking to build on winning the East Midlands Under-18 title earlier this year and aims to represent Great Britain in the future.
The 18-year-old pressed 115kg to scoop the East Midlands Under-18 Powerlifting Bench press title at the beginning of May - in his first competition - but having exceeded that weight in training, he is looking to do better still going forward.
He said: "I was quite disappointed to only press 115kg. I have managed to pull across 130 kg in training and was trying to repeat that performance at the event.
"My aim now is to press more in the next events coming although it will be difficult and hopefully represent Britain in the coming years."
Sunny trains with uncle Pinda Singh - a nine time British champion - and acknowledges the part he has played in his own development.
His tips for success? "Eat big, sleep well, work hard and just make sure you go for it. It also helps to have a training partner who has always been there to support me."
