Striker Darius Henderson has been released by Leyton Orient in order to "pursue other opportunities" less than 12 months into a three-year contract.

The 33-year-old forward fell out of favour at Brisbane Road last term, despite only moving to E10 on a three-year deal in August.

However, despite netting eight times in 16 League One starts, the powerful striker made his last appearance for Orient in mid-April and appeared just nine times for the club in 2015.

Signed on a free transfer following his release by Championships side Nottingham Forest, the former Watford, Sheffield United and Millwall hitman made a total of 25 appearances last term.

A short statement on Orient's website read: "The club wishes to announce that striker, Darius Henderson, has left the club to pursue other opportunities.

"We wish him the best of luck and thank him for his efforts last season."

Henderson's brief Orient career turned bizarre when the hulking forward was criticised over the PA system at Brisbane Road at the request of owner Francesco Becchetti for arriving late at the home game against Port Vale in March.
