Leyton Orient have snapped up Mansfield Town striker Ollie Palmer on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee as Ian Hendon continues to mould the O's squad in his own image.

The 23-year-old targetman spent a chunk of last season on loan at Conference side Grimsby Town and hugely impressed for the Mariners, netting six times in 12 league starts.

Palmer was, however, powerless to prevent the Cleethorpes side from missing out on promotion back to the Football League, playing 70 minutes of their penalty shoot-out defeat by Bristol Rovers at Wembley in May.

Speaking to the club website, boss Hendon commented: “Ollie is a big striker but there is a lot more to his game. He has good feet and he's a good finisher as well, but more importantly he is hard worker and he will fit in well.

"He was desperate to come to Orient and there was interest from other Football League clubs. I put in a lot of hard work with Ollie in order to get him in, as I have done with all our other signings."

In total, Palmer struck eight times in 18 outings for Grimsby last term after moving to Blundell Park on loan from the Stags in January.

Palmer, who began his professional career at Woking, netted seven times in 64 appearances for Mansfield during a two-year stay but only 26 of those outings were starts.

The 6ft 5in frontman has also spent time out on loan at Boreham Wood and St Albans City prior to a move to Havant & Waterlooville in 2011.

It was his former for the Hampshire side, which included 37 league goals in 69 appearances, which persuaded Mansfield to sign Palmer in 2013 but he was unable to replicate that stunning form at Field Mill.
