Wapping ladies’ A team dropped to second in the Summer League standings following a 1-0 loss to local rivals East London in a close-fought encounter last Wednesday.

The scores were level at the break, for which Wapping were indebted to goalkeeper Cerys Jenkins, who made a number of fine saves.

In the second half they raised their game and might easily have taken the lead. Lourdes Morenco’s strike from a penalty corner narrowly missed the target and Nina Belk had a goal ruled out when the umpire blew for a free hit in her favour just before her shot crossed the line.

East London had a player sent off for the foul, but regardless, they took the lead soon afterwards with the only goal of the game.

Wapping men’s A team ran out comfortable 4-0 winners against Waltham Forest A with goals from Gareth Wright, David Bateman, and a brace for Paul Whelan. The B team were held to a 1-1 draw against Waltham Forest B, with Ben Bradish the scorer.
