Cindy Ofili, one of the athletes caught up in the latest round of the ‘plastic Brits’ controversy, has been selected along with sister Tiffany Porter to represent British Athletics at the World Championships in Beijing.
The duo, who run for Woodford Green with Essex Ladies, have been included in the 62-strong team named by British Athletics to compete in China between August 22-30.
And the pair are also joined by club-mate Mark Dry, the Scot having been selected for the hammer throw.
Ofili and Porter sealed qualifying times for next month’s championships by finishing second and first respectively in the 100m hurdles at the British Championships in Birmingham earlier this month.
Asked if she felt British earlier this year, Ofili said: “I do, definitely. Obviously I don’t have the accent but I feel ties here. My mum was born here and she has told me so many great things. My brothers were also both born here, in Birmingham and Plymouth.
“I definitely can see [why people may be unhappy] but people are going to say things and I’m just going to continue doing what I do. I’m not worried about other people. I had the choice to run for America, Great Britain and Nigeria and I chose to run for Great Britain so I’m just happy to have the chance to represent them.”
