West Ham United are reportedly set to make a fresh bid for Manchester United's want-away striker Javier Hernandez.

The Mexican spent last season on loan at Real Madrid but struggled to maintain a place in the first 11 and scored just nine goals in 33 appearances.

According to the Daily Mail, West Ham have upped their efforts to sign Hernandez after Ecuadorian striker Enner Valencia was ruled out for three months with injuries to his right knee and right ankle, sustained in their Europa League clash against Astra Giurgui.

The Hammers also have Andy Carroll out injured and the England striker is not expected to feature until at least October.

Hernandez is looking increasingly likely to leave Manchester United after reports linking them with Barcelona winger Pedro.

'Chicarito' has also had offers from Italy, MLS and Tottenham Hotspur but West Ham are willing to offer around £12 million for the Mexican International.

The 27-year-old has been told he is not in Louis van Gaal’s plans, however, Hernandez was an unused substitute against Spurs on Saturday and despite the speculation, van Gaal has implied he could still have a part to play.

“Ok, he can prove himself again and now Falcao and Robin van Persie are gone, so his chances are better now," the Dutchman said after.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic will face stiff competition from rivals Spurs as they are also after Hernandez's signature, with Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor set to leave White Hart Lane.
