Leyton Orient are joint top of League Two after a 3-1 victory at Dagenham & Redbridge maintained their 100 per cent record this season.

Despite coming under some early pressure, Orient took the lead inside the first 20 minutes through Paul McCallum’s header. It was 2-0 on the half-hour mark when Lloyd James, on his 100th appearance for the club, converted a penalty.

There was no let up in the second half from Ian Hendon’s side and a stunning 25-yard free-kick from Dean Cox clinched the points, despite a late consolation for the Daggers, to continue Orient's excellent start to the campaign.

The O’s selected the same team which defeated Barnet in their League Two opener last weekend.

It meant there were returns to the side for Frazer Shaw, Lloyd James, McCallum and Jay Simpson after missing Tuesday’s League Cup defeat at MK Dons.

Orient had an early scare when goalkeeper Alex Cisak missed a cross and the hosts almost scored but Kane Ferdinand side-footed the ball wide from close range.

Dagenham threatened again and Sean Clohessy made a crucial block to charge down Ashley Hemmings’ strike.

The visitors fired in their first effort on target through Cox but it was comfortably saved by Mark Cousins.

Orient opened the scoring in the 19th minute when McCallum flicked home a header for his second goal of the season.

Bradley Pritchard won the ball superbly in the hosts’ half and the midfielder was only denied by a decent save from Cousins.

The O’s almost doubled their lead through McCallum but his header rebounded off the crossbar.

Orient were awarded a penalty when Clevid Dikamona needlessly handled the ball in the area and James confidently fired home his spot-kick.

The visitors made a bright start to the second period and almost added a third goal but Cox rifled his effort just past the post.

McCallum also had another chance but his header hit the side netting.

Orient made it 3-0 in the 56th minute when Cox struck a stunning free-kick into the top corner of the net.

The Daggers almost pulled one back immediately but Cisak pulled off a brilliant save to turn Christian Doidge’s strike onto the crossbar.

Hendon made his first change when Ollie Palmer replaced McCallum and the O's goalscorer was given a great ovation by the packed away end.

The O's peppered the Dagenham goal with a spell of sustained pressure but Simpson was denied a goal when his header struck the crossbar.

Orient captain Mathieu Baudry was forced off late on with an injury and was replaced by former Millwall defender Alan Dunne.

The visitors made their final change when Blair Turgott replaced Simpson in the closing minutes of the game.

Dagenham grabbed a late consolation after a tidy finish from veteran striker Jamie Cureton.

It was a dominant victory for Hendon's side as they underlined their credentials to challenge for promotion this season.
