Leyton Orient head coach Ian Hendon admits his side did not deserve to win at Newport County as the O's stretched their lead at the top of League Two.

Hendon's side are two points clear in first place after a 3-2 victory at Newport ensured they are the only team with a 100 per cent record in the Football League.

But Hendon said: Did we deserve to win? I'd probably say no. I thought Newport were more than worthy of a point so that's something we have to look at and look at our performance.

"But to come away from home we know there are going to be battles and we dug in and got the three points."

Orient got off to a dream start to the game with goals from Paul McCallum and Jay Simpson opening up a 2-0 lead inside seven minutes.

The visitors spurned chances to seal the win but two goals in a minute at the end of the half brought Newport level.

Terry Butcher's side were the more dangerous team in the second half but Dean Cox's 59th minute goal made it four consecutive league wins for Orient.

Hendon said: "We did have to work hard for that one. We set off really well and started the game superbly scoring two good goals. Paul McCallum should have made it three and I think had that gone in we probably would have killed the game there and then with the free header he basically missed.

"But then fair play to Newport. They got back in the game with two quick goals before half time and they made it difficult for us to be honest. It was a tough game second half but Cox's popped up with one and made it 3-2 and we've had to hang on."
