Alex Cisak insists helping Orient win promotion is his priority after being called up to the Australia squad.

The goalkeeper’s early season form was rewarded with a place in the Socceroos squad as he bids to win a first cap for his country.

Cisak will join up with his international team-mates for the World Cup qualifiers against Bangladesh and Tajikistan following this weekend’s game with Bristol Rovers. But the shot stopper is adamant performing well for his club side will always be his main focus.

The Polish-born Australian, who will miss the games at Luton Town and Exeter City, said: “It’s a great honour for me to be called up to represent Australia and obviously I want to do well when I go there but the most important thing is playing well here and get us promoted. If I keep doing that then hopefully I will get more call-ups as well.”

Cisak spent the final three months of last season on loan from Burnley at Brisbane Road last season. His form for the O’s caught the eye and immediately won him the support of the fans despite being unable to keep the team in League One.

The 26-year-old made an unexpected return to the club after signing a two-year contract last month and the keeper admits the chance to play regular football was a major reason.

When asked if he needed convincing to return, Cisak replied: “Not really. The most important thing for me was game time. As soon as I found out they wanted me and I would get some game time here I took the chance because I’m 26 now and need to be playing.

“I just love playing football rather than in the Championship on the bench or not even in the squad so I just want to be playing and that’s the most important thing.”

Having had the chance to be part of the squad during the end of last season and over the opening month of their start to the new campaign, Cisak is in a strong position to reflect on the differences.

The keeper said: “It’s been good. I think the atmosphere is a lot better than it was last year. Having won four on the bounce is brilliant and can’t wait for the season to keep going.”

Cisak added: “I guess when a team’s losing and they are in the relegation zone like last season the changing room’s a bit different.

“When you’re winning games everyone’s enjoying their football and is happy. There’s just a really good atmosphere and I think the manager deserves a lot of credit for bringing the right players in and he’s definitely created the atmosphere at the club as well. Everyone’s pushing each other and happy as well.”

Cisak has had the chance to work with a new goalkeeping coach this season after the arrival of Lee Harrison. The O’s number one believes working with Harrison will help raise his game over the course of the season.

“He’s [Harrison] been really good. I’ve enjoyed training with him and think I’ve learnt a lot already since I’ve been with him. I think come the end of the season it could be a big difference in my performances and hopefully keep pushing myself and getting better as a goalkeeper.”
