An injury-time goal dumped Redbridge out the FA Cup preliminary Round, 2-1 at home to Isthmian Division One North rivals Heybridge Swifts.

In an even first half it was Swifts' Shamido Pedulu who went closest to opening the scoring but failed to find a way past Redbridge keeper Jack Avery.

Damian Green put the visitors ahead in the 68th minute with a header. That goal gave the Motormen the jolt they needed in order to fight back.

Dave Ross and Ricky Eaton's side nearly levelled immediately when Ronnie Winn cut inside and forced a good stop from former West Ham United youngster Sam Cowler.

From the resulting corner James Ogunleye netted and it looked as though a replay at Scraley Road would be required to separate the two side.

But the Swifts advanced and pocketed £1,925 in the process when Billy Hunt's left-wing cross was met by Akwasi Marfo at the death.

The Motormen go to Harlow Town on Bank Holiday Monday.

Waltham Abbey played against ten men for more than 70 minutes but still exited the FA Cup 1-0 at the hands of Welwyn Garden City.

The Spartan South Midlands Division One side had defender Yasin Boodhoo dismissed after 18 minutes yet the lower-ranked side held out to head into the first qualifying round.

A challenge on Macauley Joynes was deemed serious enough to earn Boodhoo a straight red card after Ashley Kersey latched onto a ball down the middle and fired beyond Anthony Page to give WGC a first-minute lead.

Matty Attard was denied what looked for all the world and equalising header but Joe Croft was on-form to keep out the defender's effort.

Abbey winger Ryan Flack and substitute Piers Wixon both went close without finding a way past Croft as Martin Hayes' men piled on the pressure to no avail.

Kersey might have doubled the home side's lead with a looping header but Attard was on-hand to clear under pressure.

Substitute Darelle Russell saw an effort blocked by Croft before the Abbotts' fate was confirmed by the full-time whistle.

Abbey go to Cheshunt on Monday.

Wadham Lodge's productive week continued as they followed up their success in the 'Walthamstow Derby' with a 2-0 victory at Greenhouse Sports in the Essex Senior League Premier Division.

Tony Ievoli's side started well at Coles Park but it was the struggling home side who were in the ascendancy for long periods of a torrid first 40 minutes for the Kitchener Road outfit.

Wadham did eventually manage to get a foothold in the game as goals from Andrea Mantovani and Billy Pike settled the nerves to give Lodge the most undeserved of half-time leads.

The second half followed a similar pattern and only the heroics of backup Lodge goalkeeper Steve French kept the home side at bay.

"Frenchy was quite outstanding," said coach Neil Day. "It is fair to say he gives me and Tony the jitters at times but no doubt he's a fantastic shot-stopper on his day.

"Greenhouse had the majority of play and few would argue he (French) was the difference between the teams," added Day.

The win takes Wadham up to second in their first season in the Essex Senior League but Day was quick to quash any talk beyond the next game.

He said: "We've made a steady start but that's all it is - a start. "We've already picked up several points in games where we didn't look anything like our best which I suppose is a pretty encouraging sign, however, it's pretty obvious we're a long way from the finished article at this moment in time."

Meanwhile, Waltham Forest were crushed 5-1 at home by Sawbridgeworth Town, leaving Terry Fogarty's side with a solitary point from their first four games.

Trailing 2-0 at the break, the Stags conceded three more before a consolation penalty was scored by Akbayrak.
