Leyton Orient have signed Peterborough United midfielder Jack Payne on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent move.

The transfer, which is subject to Football League approval, is a major coup for the club after chasing him this summer.

"It has been a long drawn out process but we are pleased to get a deal done which sees Jack come in on loan with a view to a permanent deal," head coach Ian Hendon told the club website.

"I cannot thank the president enough as he has backed me yet again with this deal and we are looking forward to working with Jack.

"Jack needs a bit of work to get up to speed with the rest of the squad having not had much game time yet this season, but he will be a good addition to the squad."

Payne joined the O's on their pre-season trip to Spain back in July but it appeared as though the move had fallen through after the clubs failed to agree terms.

But Hendon has agreed a deal to bring the 23-year-old former Gillingham player to Brisbane Road and he could make his debut in tonight's Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie at Luton.
