Crostyx ladies were crowned Essex Champions at the weekend as they won the Rosebowl Competition held at Redbridge Sports Centre.

Styx made light work of the group stages by beating Redbridge 1-0, Old Loughtonians 4-0, Upminster 1-0 and drawing 0-0 with Brentwood.

Unbeaten and with goalkeeper Emma Thorne having kept four clean sheets, Crostyx advanced to the final to face Havering.

Fine rearguard action from Rhona Mackie, Izzy Jones, Ella Day and Donna Blockley kept Havering at bay whilst the Styx attacking unit set to work trying to break down their opponents.

Their efforts were rewarded when an inch perfect pass from Player of the Tournament Maddy Green found Sarah Belsham one-on-one. Quick and clever footwork enabled Belsham to slot past the Havering goalkeeper with ease to open the scoring.

Crostyx's second goal arrived following a succession of short corners. With Havering tiring, Alys Rowland kept a drag flick low and hard, winning a penalty flick after the ball caught a Havering defender on the shine on the line.

Rowland then converted herself to hand Crostyx a 2-0 lead. Styx played out the rest of the game without any scares to seal victory and add to last weekend's quadrangular tournament success. The season begins at home to Sudbury on Saturday.
