Leyton Orient ended their winless run with a 3-1 home victory over Notts County this afternoon.

The O’s got off to a fast start and opened the scoring in the first half when Sammy Moore fired home from close range. But inside the first minute of the second period Notts County levelled through Jon Stead.

Orient regained the lead in the 79th minute when Jay Simpson netted from close range before a stunning 30-yard strike from Moore sealed a long awaited win.

Leyton Orient selected Brighton defender Adam Chicksen after joining on loan for a month yesterday.

Chicksen replaced Frazer Shaw while Alex Cisak unexpectedly started in goal despite expectations the keeper would be away on international duty with Australia.

Civard Sprockel had an early chance for the visitors but headed wide from a corner.

Ollie Palmer had the first opportunity for Orient but his header lacked power and was easily held by goalkeeper Scott Loach.

The O’s almost opened the scoring when Sean Clohessy crossed and Sammy Moore fired in an effort but Loach parried the shot.

Orient were well on top in the opening stages and Mathieu Baudry was only denied when the captain’s header was tipped away by Loach.

But the hosts opened the scoring after 17 minutes when Bradley Pritchard chipped the ball over the defence and Moore picked his spot to volley into the net.

Notts County almost gifted Orient a second goal when a dreadful defensive header set up Jay Simpson but the striker’s header was blocked by Loach.

Jimmy Spencer should have done better for the visitors from the edge of the penalty box but his cross-shot went out for a throw-in.

The visitors made an explosive start to the second half and equalised straight from the kick off when Adam Campbell set up Stead for a close-range finish.

Connor Essam had a chance for the O’s but he sent his header over the visitors’ crossbar.

Notts County almost took the lead but Campbell’s close-range effort was kept out by an excellent save from Cisak.

Ian Hendon made his first substitution when he introduced Blair Turgott in place of Jack Payne.

It was a much more even game following the equaliser but Orient went close from Dean Cox’s cross but Turgott could only fire wide at the far post.

Palmer found himself in space from the edge of the area but his shot was comfortably saved.

Orient regained the lead when Clohessy’s strike was parried by Loach and Simpson reacted quickest to net the rebound effort.

Hendon’s side sealed the victory in the 84th minute when Moore hit an unbelievable strike from distance into the top corner.
