Orient match winner Sammy Moore believes the club deserve to be back in League One and is determined to help the O’s to promotion.

The midfielder scored his first goals for the club, including a stunning 35-yard strike, in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Notts County.

The win pushed the O’s back up to third in League Two, only two points behind leaders Plymouth Argyle, and Moore is optimistic about their chances of success this season.

Moore, who joined from AFC Wimbledon this summer, said: “I’ve really enjoyed my start here. This club deserves to be back in League One and I’m going to do my utmost to get us there.”

He added: “It’s a small squad but a really good squad. It’s probably the best squad I’ve been involved in during my career. There’s real top quality from the goalkeeper to the strikers.

“From one to 11 whoever goes and gets that shirt on a Saturday has to make sure they keep that shirt because you don’t want to be sitting on the bench.

“If we can keep this squad together and injury free and the gaffer can maybe add one or two we could be a real force this season.

“The 11 games we’ve played, apart from one, we could have won all of them so we’re delighted with the start and just need to keep it going now.”

Moore produced two quality finishes on Saturday with a first-half volley topped by an unstoppable long-range strike late on.

The midfielder hopes to chip in for the side throughout the season and has a goal target in mind.

The 28-year-old said: “Obviously last year I was at Wimbledon and played a little deeper than this year. I’ve played under Andy Hessenthaler before and he knows I’ve got goals in me.

“If I get chances to I’ll be having a shot like that again and I think hopefully I will set a target of eight to ten goals. I’m just delighted we got three points.”

His second against the Magpies was worthy of winning any game and is an early contender for goal of the season alongside Blair Turgott’s strike against Stevenage.

Moore, who overcame a knee injury to score his screamer, said: “It was a great strike and probably the best goal I’ve scored in my career. It was an important goal as well.”
