New Orient boss Kevin Nolan hopes to add to his backroom staff after long-serving coach Kevin Nugent left the club.

Nugent decided to step down as first-team coach last week after spending the last nine years working at Brisbane Road.

The former O's player worked as youth team manager and had several spells as caretaker boss including last season after Russell Slade's departure.

But Nugent's contract was due to expire this summer and he has left the club following Ian Hendon's dismissal.

Nolan said: "Kevin Nugent decided that he no longer wanted to be at the club anyway so that was before I came. It had nothing to do with me.

"I would have liked him to stay here because of his knowledge of the place, but unfortunately he is someone I have lost. Everybody else will be staying."

Andy Hessenthaler will remain assistant manager and there have been reports Nolan could bring in ex-West Ham first-team coach Wally Downes.

Nolan said: "I have a few names at the back of my mind who I have got to speak to, but more importantly this week is a three game week and I have got to concentrate more on that then looking at who I will bring in next to me. It will be to assist me and work with Andy and Lee Harrison, the goalkeeper coach."
