Dimitri Payet believes he may have proved a point to his doubters following his summer move to West Ham United from Marseille.

Payet has fast become the Hammers’ key player, scoring and assisting regularly as Slaven Bilic’s side climb the Premier League table.

The Hammers have provided their fans with some memorable moments already this season with away victories against Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City.

It is for those reasons the 28-year-old believes his move to Upton Park has been vindicated.

He told The Sun: “People questioned my decision to join West Ham and said it was only for the money.

"But last season at Marseille I think I proved what I was capable of.”

The Frenchman is conscious of his newfound status a Premier League star but remains unsure about the amount of recognition he is receiving.

He said: “I don’t know if I’m classed as a star now, but people have got to know me.

“When I arrived in England I was anonymous. It’s nice to be recognised for my football, especially in a competition as strong as the Premier League."
