The Guardian Series understands Andy Hessenthaler will act as Leyton Orient caretaker manager for this Saturday's home game against Dagenham & Redbridge.

Kevin Nolan will be asked to step down as manager at a meeting with owner Francesco Becchetti tomorrow.

But the former West Ham United captain could stay on as a player in the short term while a pay-off is agreed with the club.

It was initially believed head of recruitment Rob Gagliardi and operations manager Vito Miceli would take charge of Orient's next game.

But it is now understood assistant manager Hessenthaler will step in as caretaker boss with assistance from Gagliardi and academy director Andy Edwards. Goalkeeper coach Lee Harrison is expected to be demoted to the academy.

Becchetti is believed to want a hands on role with the side and is understood to have been involved in team selection over the last few games.
