Defender Nicky Hunt has called on his Orient teammates to put their recent disappointment behind them to keep the East Londoners’ play-off bid alive.

The O’s are in a dismal run of form which has seen them lose three of their last four and draw the other, to drop to 11th in League Two.

It is a run which has ultimately cost Kevin Nolan his job as Orient manager.

But they are still just two points shy of the play-offs and Hunt knows there is still time to save their season.

Speaking on Saturday, Hunt said: “Luckily we’ve got five games to rectify the situation we’re in and get into the play-offs.

“We’ve got to pick our heads up, which we will do, get back on the training ground and concentrate on getting three points off Dagenham.”

And he says he does not care how those points come about as long as they get them.

He said: “It’s a points business. It’s about three points, that’s what the fans want to see. They don’t necessarily want to see you play well, they want the three points to get us back up to where this club belongs in League One.

“Hopefully we can kick on again on Saturday and then the home game against Plymouth on Tuesday. It’s a great chance for us to get maximum points.”

He admitted he was lost for words as the O’s were beaten 3-0 at Barnet on Saturday.

He said: “Speechless is, I think, the word that sums it up.”

Orient missed a penalty when they were just one down – their fifth successive spot kick miss – and that proved the turning point as Barnet added two quick goals to put the game out of reach.

Hunt said: “It’s very frustrating. We have lost three out of four and got one point out of 12. It’s not promotion form. But we know we have been there the previous four or five weeks and shown top-three form. We know it is in there, we know we can do it.”

He added: “Each player reacts in different ways. We’ve got to get back on the training ground and get fully focused on how to beat Dagenham, which I am sure we are more than capable of doing.

“We go into every game believing we can win. These past few weeks we haven’t shown it but in the five weeks before we were in brilliant form.”
