Ollie Palmer says it will be Orient’s loss if the club does not re-sign its out of contract stars Lloyd James, Mathieu Baudry and Jobi McAnuff.

The trio’s deals expire this summer and with no manager in place at Brisbane Road their futures are uncertain.

Palmer, who scored winners in Orient’s last two games against Mansfield and Yeovil, said: “They’re fantastic players and they’ve got fantastic pedigree and it would be a loss if they were to move on.

“Just having them on the training ground is brilliant for the younger lads and for people like myself.”

Palmer followed up his winner against his former club Mansfield on the penultimate weekend with an 87th minute winner in Somerset last Saturday in the final round of League Two fixtures.

The result ensured that a disappointing season for the club ended on a positive.

He said: “It was a nice way to finish the season. We are disappointed with where we are in the league table but I think we showed the fans the respect they deserve by putting in a performance and picking up three points as we did last week as well.

“It’s all a little bit of too little too late though and it’s onto next season.”

The players responded to their win at Yeovil by forming a huddle.

Palmer explained: “It showed a little bit of unity. I can’t tell you that every single one of those lads is going to be here next season so we thanked them all for their efforts. The changing room has been fantastic.

“Everyone has got on with each other and everyone showed their appreciation of each other.

“I know we are not too happy with where we are but we’ve worked hard and I hope the fans can see that.”

The win came at the end of a season where Orient were unable to deliver on the target of an instant return to League One – a failed mission that resulted in first Ian Hendon and then Kevin Nolan being relieved of their managerial duties.

Palmer says he doesn’t know where things started to unravel but says that long term injuries to key men Dean Cox and Paul McCallum, who returned to the pitch for the first time since September on Saturday, were factors.

He said: “We’ve had a couple of crucial injuries, but we don’t want to make excuses.”
